Our New Fabric: A Closer Look

No one will be surprised to hear that we have new fabric in and are VERY excited about it. One of my ultimate long term shop dreams is to have shelves and shelves full of beautiful bolts of cloth, so we can run our hands along them, wrap them around ourselves, and weep gently while we bask in their glory. Or something like that.

For the meantime: we generally have two kinds of fabric in the shop. The slightly cheaper but ever changing and mega lovely cotton’s that we sell for £2.50 a FQ, and then the slightly more beautiful, designer fabrics that I tie up in pretty baker’s twine carefully and sell at the still reasonable £4-£5 a FQ. We decided it was time to invest in more of these glorious higher end fabrics, and thus 12 bolts of fabric arrived on the shop doorstep last Thursday (typically my day off – but I gratefully received photos of the unpacking process from Mattie).

Bar 2, the fabrics are all from the Art Gallery designer ranges of 100% cottons. If you want to learn more about AGF or just cry at some pretty photos then totally look here. The 2 exceptions are part of the appropriately named Cloud 9 ranges, which you can swoon over here. These two are possibly our favourites of the whole bunch, and when we saw them Mattie immediately shouted “That’s like the wallpaper in Knighthayes!” and thrust a photo in front of me to prove this point. It’s very William Morris and makes us extremely happy.

These photos absolutely do not do this justice – it’s truly dreamy.

The most fabrics we bought from one designer were 4 from the Coastline range, designed by Sharon Holland. “Coastline breathes in the salty breeze of the shore and the feeling of soft sand under the toes, and exhales the view through shades of nautical blues, sea shell pinks and sea glass greens.” It’s definitely the colours that got us here, and the pretty summery patterns.

The boats are already proving to be wonderfully popular – I vision them making the perfect home furnishings in some kind of lovely Sea Side residence.

One of my next makes needs to be a cover for my new extra beautiful laptop (I’m almost at the stage of not being insanely careful around it so need to whip this up before I start throwing it around the place), and I think I’ve narrowed it down to one of these two fabrics, chosen from the Maker range by AGF Studio. “Crisp and fun prints with spontaneity and playful details are the gateway to picture-perfect projects that portray the love for our craft.” Pretty perfect for us right?

I think it’s got to be the wordy one hasn’t it?

This one is another favourite (they’re all my favourite, ok?) since it reminds me of some kind of beautiful tiling, or really classy kaleidoscope.

Just thinking of a dress made of this makes me faintly giddy with happiness. We also have this from the same range, called ‘Curiosities’ –

In all honesty we thought this was black & white when we ordered it, but I LOVE the colours it actually turned out to be, even if it does make my eyes go a bit funny.

Finally, we picked up these two beauties, the first one which reminds us a bit of pretty peas (obviously…)

And then this glorious bolt, which is quite amazingly called “Rumpled Nectarine,” which is a joy in itself.

There you have it! I hope these bring you as much fabric happiness as it does to us here. And we may have ordered even more from our favourite supplier yesterday….but shhhh. Have a proper look at these plus more of our sewing range here.
